Shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd has implemented new peak season surcharges for cargo shipped to North American ports from two key regions: East Asia and the Indian Subcontinent & Middle East.
From Indian Subcontinent & Middle East:
- Applies to all 20’, 40’, reefer, and special containers (including high cube) gated in from June 17th, 2024 onwards (valid until further notice).
- Surcharge amounts:
- Indian Subcontinent & Middle East to North America West Coast: US$1000 per container
- India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka to US East Coast & Gulf Coast: US$500 per container
- Covered regions:
- Indian Subcontinent: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka
- Middle East: UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan
From East Asia:
- Two-tiered surcharge based on container gate-in date:
- June 1st, 2024 to June 14th, 2024:
- 20′ container: US$480
- 40′ container (including 45′): US$600
- June 15th, 2024 onwards (valid until further notice):
- 20′ container: US$1000
- 40′ container (including 45′): US$2000
- June 1st, 2024 to June 14th, 2024:
- Covered regions:
- East Asia: Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Macau, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines
- Covered destinations:
- North America: United States and Canada
