PortMiami underscored its capacity for handling megaships with the arrival of the colossal CMA CGM Bali on March 11, 2024. This leviathan of the seas boasts a staggering capacity of 15,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) and sails the Manhattan Bridge route, a vital commercial artery connecting China to East Coast ports in the US through the Panama Canal.

The momentous occasion was celebrated by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “PortMiami’s ability to welcome the CMA CGM Bali signifies our preparedness for the future of large-scale shipping,” she remarked. “This vessel embodies a new chapter in sustainable transportation, merging innovation with environmental responsibility within the shipping industry.”

Hydi Webb, PortMiami’s Director and CEO, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the significance of the partnership with CMA CGM. “We’re committed to forging collaborative and sustainable maritime practices, paving the way for a greener future for our port and the surrounding community,” Webb stated.

Singaporean container line, Ocean Network Express (ONE), also demonstrates its commitment to sustainable shipping by completing its first-ever European Union Allowances (EUA) transaction. This move aligns with the recently implemented EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) for the maritime industry. BNP Paribas, a leading global bank based in Paris, facilitated the transaction.
