VIETNAM RANKS 43RD IN THE LOGISTICS PERFORMANCE INDEX

According to the World Bank, Vietnam holds the 43rd position in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI), standing amongst the top five countries in ASEAN, trailing behind Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and sharing the same position as the Philippines.

What is the Logistics Performance Index (LPI)?

The Logistics Performance Index (LPI) is an index researched and annually published by the World Bank. It represents the competitiveness and demonstrates a nation’s level of goods circulation. Based on this index, foreign businesses can assess the investment potential in a country, while leaders can strategize on enhancing their nation’s ranking.

The LPI index is crucial for the development of the logistics industry

The LPI is crucial for the development of the logistics sector. This index is comprehensively evaluated based on six criteria: (1) Infrastructure; (2) International shipment connectivity and transportation; (3) Logistics services quality; (4) Tracking and tracing of shipments; (5) Timeliness of shipments; (6) Customs efficiency.

Vietnam ranks 43rd in the Logistics Performance Index

According to the 2023 Logistics Performance Index rankings, Singapore remains the global leader, followed by Finland, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.

Singapore continues to maintain a Stronghold in the Logistics Industry

Notably, in the 2023 LPI rankings, Vietnam holds the 43rd position, dropping four spots from the remarkable 39th rank achieved in 2018. However, Vietnam’s LPI score has increased to 3.3 points from 3.27 in 2018. Vietnam remains in the Top 5 ASEAN nations, trailing Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and sharing the position with the Philippines.

Based on the LPI index, Vietnam ranks among ASEAN’s top five, alongside Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines

Prior to this, in the last LPI release in 2018, Vietnam made an impressive leap from the 64th to the 39th position, marking a significant climb of 25 places.

Facing escalating challenges in the market and pressure to adhere to international standards concerning environmental sustainability, logistics enterprises relying on external services are demanding substantial reductions in emissions. This places immense pressure on logistics enterprises to swiftly adapt by investing and restructuring operations toward environmentally friendly practices, thereby enhancing their competitive edge and ensuring sustainable and stable development.
